So here I go with my stories!
First of all, let me just say what a complete and total HONOR it has been learning from and serving with the Children’s Service Guild for the past 8 years. Although I’ve known of them my entire time on campus and of the miracles they make, I’ve worked side by side with this amazing group as a supervisor in O’Bannon Cottage. My title of Honorary Guildite will always be one of my most special accomplishments. Thank you ALL for taking me in!
One of the most special things about the Guild is that they just keep giving and giving. They’re excellent stewards of their resources, and because of that, are always in a position to help. When I see child’s face light up at a yes answer when he asks if he gets to gets to keep the pajamas? I see the impact and love the CSG has with and for these kids. It’s so endearing when a grateful child gets to come shop in O’Bannon Cottage and says a huge thank you to the strangers who provide so much of what we have to offer. What most of us take for granted, are truly the exceptions in the lives of so many of our children in care.
And then there are the parties! From Valentines Day cupcakes to Easter Egg hunts to Pumpkin decorating to Christmas gingerbread houses, the Guild strives to make lasting memories for these kids and many times, their siblings. Taking and giving them time stamped pictures may be the only pictures these kids have with their families. These amazing folks spare no detail with providing care, concern, and comfort to our really special kids. They know what it is to love others unconditionally and certainly show it with each opportunity to serve our children.
Watching an adult water fight at a 4th of July party is something to behold … everyone comes away wet but nicely cooled off! Shoe shopping at Sketchers with someone else’s credit card is also a great time.
There are so many things I could say, but I’d never be done. So in closing, I want to again say what a blessing and honor it has been to be around, learn from, laugh and cry with, hug and mostly be loved by the Children’s Service Guild. The pleasure has been all mine and when I grow up, I want to be just like you ALL! Thank you for everything and may God bless and keep you always.
